Images Festival owes much of its success to our generous sponsors. With your contribution, Images will continue to foster our growing appreciations for diverse, independent and emerging perspectives in Canada. The festival was created in response to issues of accessibility and it has breaking down barriers created by industry conventions for the past 30 years. From the beginning, the organization championed alternatives to mainstream media, and fought to open up dialogue around issues of race, culture, gender and sexuality in media and art. Images is founded on a passionate arts community who see the moving image as a gateway for expression, social growth, and critical dialogue.
The Images Festival experience offers three distinct yet interwoven streams:
8 days of theatrical screenings of film and video works by artists from across the country and around the world. On Screen includes feature length films alongside Images’ trademark programs of curated shorts. You’re guaranteed to see something new, original, boundary breaking and frequently mind-blowing.
Media-based installations take over contemporary art galleries across the GTA from March through May! Off Screen incorporated everything from old-school overhead projectors to the newest digital technologies. Participating galleries include the AGO, the ROM, The Power Plant, MOCCA and many more.
Our performance-based series incorporates music, theatre, lectures, dance and anything else you can imagine combined with the moving image! Some of our most popular events take place in this series including recent Closing Night Galas with live film score by indie music heroes Fucked Up and Yo La Tengo.
